During an announcement where Trump said he would sign off on a three-week funding bill that includes no border wall funding, he touted using technological barriers at the border rather than \u201cMedieval walls\u201d from \u201csea to shining sea.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThe walls we are building are not Medieval walls. They are smart walls<\/strong> designed to meet the needs of front line border agents and are operationally effective. These barriers are made of steel, have see-through visibility \u2026 and are equipt with sensors, monitors, and cutting edge technology including state-of-the-art drones<\/strong>. [Emphasis added]<\/p>\n
We do not need 2,000 miles of concrete wall from sea to shining sea. We never did. We never proposed that. We never wanted that<\/strong> because we have barriers at the border where natural structures are as good as anything that we can build. [Emphasis added]<\/p>\n
Our proposed structures will be in pre-determined, high-risk locations<\/strong> that have been specficially identified by the border patrol to stop illicit flows of people and drugs. [Emphasis added]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Pro-illegal immigration groups, Democrats, and business-first Republicans often tout their support for \u201ctechnology\u201d and \u201cdrones\u201d at the southern border.<\/p>\n
Weeks ago, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she supported a \u201cvirtual wall\u201d made of technology and sensors, as Breitbart News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe positive, shall we say, almost technological wall, that can be built is what we should be doing,\u201d Pelosi said.<\/p>\n
Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach told Breitbart News<\/a> this month that it is a border wall that stops illegal immigration, not technology and drones.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe sometimes hear from people who say they want border security but really aren\u2019t serious about it is \u2018Oh, we\u2019ll just have drones and sensors,'\u201d Kobach said. \u201cWell, a drone and a sensor tells you that somebody is entering the United States, it doesn\u2019t stop the person from entering the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n
The technological barrier at the border plan was originally implemented by President George W. Bush and was canceled<\/a> in 2011 by President Obama after not seeming to stop large flows of illegal immigration.<\/p>\n
