The infamous, serial killer-possessed doll Chucky gets a modern upgrade in a new reboot<\/a> of the 1980s horror classic, \u201cChild\u2019s Play.\u201d <\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s first trailer was unveiled Thursday and, from the looks of it, the terror looks a lot more tech-focused this time around. Due out in June, \u201cChild\u2019s Play\u201d stars Aubrey Plaza as Karen Barclay, a single mother who buys her son, Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a smart home device known as a \u201cBuddi doll\u201d named Chucky. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the mother and son duo, Chucky is far more sinister than he appears \u2015 and with the new contemporary twist, he seems to be able to take control of thermostats, lawn mowers and even drones, making his kills considerably more elaborate. <\/p>\n

In a video released last month<\/a> at the 2019 WonderCon event in Anaheim, California, actor Mark Hamill revealed to fans that he\u2019ll be providing Chucky\u2019s voice in the film. <\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t wait to bring such an iconic character to life, and present him in a way you\u2019ve never seen him before,\u201d Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d films, said<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna have some fun \u2015 and remember, he\u2019s more than just a friend, he\u2019s your best friend.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cChild\u2019s Play\u201d follows a number of other horror classics, including \u201cHalloween<\/a>\u201d and \u201cPet Sematary<\/a>,\u201d in getting a 21st-century reimagining. The reboot was produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, who also oversaw the 2017 remake of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cIt\u201d as well as its forthcoming sequel, due out this summer. <\/p>\n

The original \u201cChild\u2019s Play<\/a>\u201d was released in 1988, starring Catherine Hicks as Karen, Alex Vincent as Andy and Brad Dourif. The film spawned six sequels, including 1998\u2032s \u201cBride of Chucky<\/a>,\u201d starring Jennifer Tilley as Chucky\u2019s accomplice, Tiffany Valentine. <\/p>\n
