Franklin County Deputy uses drone to find lost hunters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Two hunters who were lost in the woods Monday night are safe thanks in part to a high tech drone.

Monday, around 8 p.m., The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) got a call that two hunters were lost in the woods at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. Sgt. Nick Williams was called to the scene right away.

“There was a sense of urgency due to the weather,” he said.

It was snowing and the temperature was dropping.

Sgt. Williams is one of FCSO’s drone pilots. He’s been flying them for a total of roughly four years. He’s flown them for the FCSO for about three years.

“As soon as I got up it was seconds to find them, the biggest hurdle was getting through the brush in the thick woods,” Sgt. Williams said.

The drone can use several different types of cameras. The one used Monday night was a forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera.

“It picks up the body heat your body puts off,” Sgt. Williams said.

Temperatures and things like that, so it uses the temperatu..

To that end, the commission, in its usual consultative approach to regulation, held a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos yesterday to review the guidelines on the use of the 2.4 and 5.8 GHZ spectrum bands, which are the frequencies for deployment of drones and other emerging technologies in Nigeria.

Speaking at the forum, the Director, Spectrum Administration, Nigerian Communications Commission, Engr. (Dr.) Austin Nwaulune, said the deployment of drones has increased in the country, hence, the need to regulate its use from the perspective of spectrum.

“The drone market is scaling rapidly and delivering enriched services in the process. The wealth of new applications of this new technology and the role that stakeholders can..

To mark the end of the era, City A.M. asked several experts for what they think have been the biggest technological breakthroughs or advancements made in the 2010s.
Biometrics & fintechWhether it is by using facial verification or a fingerprint scanner, our personal biometrics are now being used to secure our devices and confirm our identities.
The adoption of biometrics has fuelled the rise of fintechs, as the former can ensure that the right person is accessing the latter.

As a result, biometrics, combined with high-speed internet and connectivity, have transformed the way we interact with each other, with governments, and with financial services, according to Andrew Bud, founder and chief executive of iProov.
“In 2010, there were no mobile banking apps — the first appeared in 2011. Today, some banks don’t offer any other way,” he says. ..
