LG Spain helps reforest national spark with drone and smartphone technology

LG Spain helps reforest national spark with drone and smartphone technology

Monday 8 July 2019 | 09:41 CET | News

LG Spain announced that it’s using drone and smartphone technology to help bring Alto Tajo Natural Park in Guadalajara to its former glory after suffering one of the worst wildfires in its history a few years ago. As part of its LG Smart Green project, the company teamed up local startup CO2 Revolution to devise a plan involving a high-tech drone, an LG G8 ‘Smart Green’ smartphone and a LG gram laptop.

The process involved capturing information during the drone’s scanning flights with the smartphone. The data and images were then uploaded to the LG gram laptop which used advanced software and a specially designed algorithm to identify optimal locations to disperse the seeds. Then a CO2 Revolution pilot flew the drone to the target sites using the phone and laptop to plant the seeds.

LG has planted approximately 2 million seeds throughout Alto Tajo Natural Park..

Press release

Source: NTT DOCOMO

TOKYO, Jul, 05 2019 – (JCN Newswire) – NTT DOCOMO, INC has announced that together with its capital affiliate Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (FET), one of Taiwan's largest mobile operators, it has been testing the docomo skyTM service for inspecting base-station towers in Taiwan since June 20. The service uses drones to photograph the towers and then wirelessly communicate the information to a command center in real time. This is the second overseas deployment of docomo sky, following Indonesia.
The first test, conducted on June 20 in the Hsinchu area of northwestern Taiwan, involved checking FET's towers for equipment damage and rust using images taken by drones. The test results, which were compared with the results of conventional inspections, confirmed that towers could be inspected in just one-third the time while significantly lowering related safety risks. Further tests are being conducted to..

Drones make a splash spray painting crowdsourced graffiti – CNET

Enlarge ImageFour drones armed with cans of spray paint worked on the canvas simultaneously.
Watch out Banksy. When it comes to street art, you're facing some serious competition from drones.
A swarm of artsy UAVs from Tsuru Robotics painted a large-scale work of graffiti on a giant public canvas in Torino, Italy, last week — and it did so, one could say, with flying colors.
Just call me Vincent van Drone.
As part of a collaborative project called UFO-Urban Flying Opera, thousands of people contributed, via app, visual representations inspired by the theme “Design the City.” A team of art curators selected and combined about 100 of the designs, then four flying drones drew the image simultaneously over the course of two days using about 2,034 feet of paint.
The large-scale vertical painting stood 46×39 feet. A central management system controlled the UAVs in real time, and a monitoring system tracked their precise location and coordinated their formation as they flew, wieldi..

Great Lakes Drone Company tests their drones on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, in Snowmass.
Austin Colbert / The Aspen TimesFor the second year in a row, the Fourth of July drone show has been canceled, the Aspen Chamber Resort Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
The show, produced by Great Lakes Drone Company, was supposed to be a replacement for fireworks, which ACRA nixed back in April citing wildfire concerns. According to a news release, this year’s show was called off because of technical problems experienced by the drone company.
“In an effort to maintain the highest safety and quality performance standards, we have issued a safety stand down to our drone light show fleet until further notice,” Matthew Quinn, owner and CEO of the Michigan-based company, said in the release. “We identified a backend communications logic failure with our software and communications equipment. Until our software vendor can thoroughly..
