Almond Matters: Value and Quality of Drone Monitoring Continues to Increase

In today’s Almond Matters, brought to you by Valent, drone monitoring has become more accessible and affordable over the past few years while also becoming more involved and precise. Whether employing a drone service or purchasing a drone for continued use on a farming operation, drones have established themselves as a useful tool.

“I’ve sold a lot of just your average consumer photography type drones to growers who want to just monitor how their farms look today. Whether they’re taking a flyby video, or they’re getting into the basics of like color mapping,” said Owner of All Drone Solutions Mark Hull. “I consider that a simple but yet probably underused method, for at least drone service.”

Drone monitoring can help reduce the time required to inspect orchards and provide a digital record that can prove beneficial in a number of different areas. “The historical data I think, even with just pictures and video can become useful when trying to make decisions,” Hull noted, “I don’t like..

Verity Studios Launches Software Algorithm to Make Drones Dramatically Safer

Autonomous drone swarm leaders offer low cost, weightless, and easily-integrated algorithms that drastically reduce failure rates

ZÜRICH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–February 28, 2019–

Verity Studios AG, a pioneer in autonomous drones, has launched an integration program for their Failsafe technology for quadcopters. The patented Failsafe solution provides powerful and cost-effective safety enhancements to any consumer and commercial quadcopter drone platform. This program allows drone manufacturers to easily implement the Failsafe algorithm into their drones as a standalone or complementary safety solution to guard against the most common cause of system-error crashes: propulsion system failures.

New face old space

The City of Port Orange is obviously growing, and upgrades to old buildings require repurposing. The Building was the old police department which was built mid-80’s.  The exterior hasn’t changed much, with the exception of a facade. The opening was bittersweet with Mayor Burnette stating “When the council decided to name this building for Dorothy Hukill, she was supposed to be here with us.”

“Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette officially christened the former police station at the corner of Dunlawton Avenue and City Center Parkway as the Dorothy L. Hukill Annex on Friday, Feb. 22.” Tonya Russo wrote for the Port Orange Observer, See the entire story here

World’s biggest drone rules map

World’s biggest online drone rules mapIts been about 15 years that drones are now available widely to the public for commercial purposes. With the rise of this new unregulated technology able to fly above our heads, it didn’t take long for the first incident reports to fly in as amateurs were picking up their drones from stores to fly almost immediately after purchase.

Many commercial opportunities came up, such as video surveillance, construction site overviews, aerial photography etc. Sometimes creating tensions with other regulated bodies. In 2006, the Federal Aviation of America (FAA) was one of the first Aviation Authorities to establish commercial permits for drone pilots to & has often served as a blueprint around the world.
Difficulties with keeping upCountries have been given a hard time to follow up & stay ahead of this new & disrupting technology. For the best (& sometimes the worst), drone rules have evolved tremendously as the increased technological capacity of drones n..

Bath drone squad takes home European robotics prize

The University of Bath’s student drone team has won a special prize at the European Robotics League (ERL) for its collision avoidance capabilities.

(Credit: University of Bath)Team Bath Drones was awarded the SESAR special prize at the Seville leg of the 2019 ERL, which took place at the city’s Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC). Each drone was required to traverse several waypoints while avoiding obstacles and other non-cooperative drones, without any intervention from a human operator. The Bath team, comprising students from the university’s aerospace and IMEE (Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering) degree programmes, scored the most points during the challenge, claiming top spot.

“The SESAR challenge tries to address one of the main problems when integrating UAVs into shared airspace, that of collision avoidance in a dynamic environment,” said Dr Pejman Iravani, senior lecturer in Robotics and Autonomous Systems and Team Bath Drones advisor. “Only by the d..

Australia to build ‘independently thinking’ drones

Boeing Australia on Wednesday announced plans to make a jet drone with artificial intelligence that can act as a “loyal wingman” for manned jet fighters.

The drone’s software will enable it to fly independently or in support of manned aircraft while maintaining safe distance between other aircraft, Boeing said in a statement on what it calls the “Airpower Teaming System.”

The 38-foot-long, single-engine drone with a range of more than 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) will be able to engage in electronic warfare as well as intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance missions and swap quickly between those roles, according to Boeing.

“Our newest addition to Boeing’s portfolio will truly be a force multiplier as it protects and projects air power,” Kristin Robertson, vice president and general manager of Boeing Autonomous Systems, said in the statement.

The company showed off a model of the drone, dubbed the “Loyal Wingman — Advanced Development Program,” at the Australia Internationa..
