Drones could put Delmarva Peninsula on cutting edge

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — With elevations at sea level and open fields stretching from small towns to shoreline, the Delmarva Peninsula is defined by its paced population and rural environment.

Elements like these keep much of the region laid-back, quiet and unimpeded.

For one rising industry, that could prove a powerful asset.

Set to break ground this fall, the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport is bringing a Drone Center for Innovation to its campus. With potential for a foothold in the growing industry of unmanned vehicles, the excitement is palpable.

“There’s an opportunity here for these three states to be the epicenter of autonomous systems testing,” said Sentinel Robotic Solutions CEO Peter Bale. “Salisbury is uniquely situated demographically for exit and entry corridors over the water and different areas of sparsely populated environment around the airfield.”

Bale’s industry experience covers over 20 years.

Thousands of miles from his days playing with remote-con..

Debilitated drone found on street in Indore, police on alert

A drone was found on the streets in Madhya Pradesh's Indore. The drone was spotted by the locals in the area and was found in a damaged condition. Several strips of adhesive tape were found on the surface of the drone. The originality of the drone, however, could yet not be ascertained.
Nearly four drones were spotted over a Punjab village since the past few days. The drones that were earlier spotted had entered the Indian border from Pakistan after which the Border Security Force sounded an alert in the region.
With the growing incidents of drone spotting inside Indian borders, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given green signal to the Border Security Force (BSF) to use anti-drone technology.
This comes as a big nod by the government in wake of recent spurt of UAVs being spotted across the India-Pakistan international border. The BSF can now procure the anti-drone technology to detect and effectively engage rogue drones.
After sighting drones in the area, elaborate in..

Ford Patents 'Vehicle-integrated Drone'

– October 15, 2019, 3:21 PM

Ford has launched a research effort to explore “vehicle-integrated” drone technology. They could deploy in the case of an accident, either to transmit a message to first responders, enhance mobile phone connectivity, or even illuminate the accident scene and/or stream video.

Think of it as OnStar on steroids. Automaker Ford has patented a “vehicle-integrated drone” that is programmable and can automatically deploy from cars and trucks in emergencies and fly either autonomously or under pilot control to illuminate accident scenes with lights and sirens, stream photos and video, boost emergency communication, and enhance navigation. The law enforcement applications are obvious, but so are those aimed at rural users of unimproved roadways who need to see the road ahead or who travel in areas of spotty/nonexistent cell service.

The integrated drone is just one of several drone-related te..
