How Kalashnikov's suicide drone will change the face of war

The little terrorist (as its known in Russian) can transform into a swarm of UAVs able to smash through hi-tech (and very costly) enemy air defense systems.
In mid-February, at the IDEX 2019 weapons exhibition, Kalashnikov Concern unveiled its newest development-the KYB suicide drone.
The KYB is a self-exploding drone with 3 kilograms of TNT on board. It is essentially a more technologically advanced version of the homemade “kamikaze drones” used by ISIS militants in Syria and the Middle East against US forces and their allies, as well as Russia.
Kalashnikov's innovation can be used as a loitering munition, which hangs in the air in the combat zone until instructed to strike.

The University of Bath’s student drone team has won a special prize at the European Robotics League (ERL) for its collision avoidance capabilities.

(Credit: University of Bath)Team Bath Drones was awarded the SESAR special prize at the Seville leg of the 2019 ERL, which took place at the city’s Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC). Each drone was required to traverse several waypoints while avoiding obstacles and other non-cooperative drones, without any intervention from a human operator. The Bath team, comprising students from the university’s aerospace and IMEE (Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering) degree programmes, scored the most points during the challenge, claiming top spot.
