Travel Industry Photos Adds Drone Still Photography and Videos…

Travel Industry Photos has completed certification by the FAA to fly and offer drone hotel photography and video services to their clients.

PORTLAND, Ore. (PRWEB) April 10, 2019

As Brett and Sally Patterson have stayed on top of the ever-changing technology behind hotel photography and video, drones are finally able to capture still photography suitable for web and print. End users have high expectations as it relates to quality, and they wanted to ensure their drone still photography and videos matched their current quality of work.

To officially be able to offer these services, the team had to become certified by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). This certification provides a license to pilot these unmanned aircraft. The FAA requires that all pilots flying drones for commercial purposes be licensed under Part 107, meaning any pilot flying and shooting for hotels and resorts will need such certification.

“The FAA is very demanding that commercial drone pilots be profi..

These ‘Astroecologists’ Are Using Star-Spotting Tech to Count Endangered Animals

Astrophysicists sometimes turn to thermal infraredtechnology to help them find and study stars. The technology’s been around for decades, and it’s constantly evolving to reveal more about the cosmos. Now, some of these scientists are bringing their expertise to the world of conservation. If thermal cameras are capable of spotting distant stars, well, they must be capable of finding animals here on Earth, right?

In what the researchers are calling the first official collaborationbetween astrophysicists and ecologists, a team from Liverpool John Moores University went in search of Bornean orangutans, a critically endangered species that hides in the forests of Borneo, a southeast Asian island. A presentation Tuesday at the Unifying Tropical Ecology Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, will highlight the way drones equipped with the astrophysicists’ infrared imaging technology can more quickly and effectively count the number of individuals orangutans in the forest canopy more effectively ..

World’s first commercial drone deliveries take to skies in Australia

The world's first commercial drone deliveries are underway in Australia after aviation authorities granted a license to a Google-funded startup.

Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) gave approval to Wing – a subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet – to deliver packages via drone, after a trial of the service proved successful.

Only around 100 homes in the suburbs of Canberra will initially be eligible for the drone deliveries, though a wider roll-out is expected.

Customers will be able to request a range of products to be delivered via drone through a dedicated app, including coffee, ice cream and medicine.

Deliveries can take as little as three minutes from the point of order, Wing claims, with average flights taking around five minutes.

LA Fire Department & DJI Team Up to Develop Drone Tech for Public Safety Applications

DJI and the Los Angeles Fire Department have announced a Solution Development Partnership to create, test, and deploy DJI drone technology for public safety applications.
“We are excited to be strengthening our partnership with the LAFD, one of the nation's preeminent public safety agencies, to help them take advantage of DJI's drone technology that has been purpose-built for the public safety sector,” said Bill Chen, Enterprise Partnerships Manager at DJI. “Through our two-way collaboration, DJI will receive valuable insight into the complexities of deploying drones for emergency situations in one of the most complex urban environments in the nation. This insight will allow us to continue to refine and develop new technologies that will allow the LAFD and leading public safety agencies around the world to gain more value from life-saving drone technology.”

Young planners to deploy drone technology in mapping

Maureen Ihua-Maduenyi

In line with global trends in technology, young planners in the country are learning to use drones in mapping and urban planning and development.

At a recent three-day training for members of the Young Planners Forum of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, the professionals noted that it had become imperative to move at the same pace with the rest of the world.

The National Chairman, NITP-YPF, Mr Rasheed Osinowo, said the urban planning space was being gradually eroded by other professionals within the Geographical Information System space.

“Drone technology has been around for some time now; we have no choice but to imbibe the skills in our daily lives and practice. I am personally convinced that the adoption of drone in our drills will enhance productivity, speed, accuracy and efficiency,” he said.

Osinowo stated that for the profession of town planning to make more meaningful contribution and impact, the national body of the NITP should mandate all sta..

Some drones are a nuisance, but they’re changing the world

So, last week, I was droning on about drones and the fact I had to go to flight school to learn how to crash properly.

This week, I thought I’d drone on a little more.

You see, several events around the world of dronage passed through my radar in the past while. There was the infamous incident in the U.K. last December, whereupon “idiots with drones” managed to shut down Gatwick, Britain’s second busiest airport, for more than 24 hours.

This was not funny at all, in that according to reports, drones were spotted more than 50 times in that period. Planes had to be diverted to other droneless airports, and exactly 1.2 gajillion people were stuck in the airport for, quote, “a really long time.”

And we all know how much fun it is to be stuck in an airport.

Thing is, the Sussex police and the army rushed in, and in spite of the manpower and fancy night-vision goggles and armoured vehicles, etc., they couldn’t find a single person responsible.

They didn’t even get a chance to shoot dow..
