07/09/2017 | 03:26pm CEST
Dubai-based broadcast technology distributor Advanced Media launched DJI's consumer oriented Spark drone at a special event on Saturday. The event saw executives from Advanced Media and DJI provide technical details and demonstrations of the drone, which was first launched in Asia in May.
The drone is aimed at consumers with a strong interest in media, photography and videography, with bloggers and influencers seen as a potential key market.
Spark is a mini drone that features all of DJI's signature technologies. It includes intelligent flight control options, a mechanical gimbal, and a camera with a 1/2.3" CMOS sensor. Spark can be controlled by hand gestures and can automatically follow its owner/user. The camera can also be operated remotely using hand gestures. The drone has a maximum speed of 50 km per hour (in sport mode without wind) and a flight time of about 16 minutes. Its maximum service ceiling above sea level is 13,123 feet (4,000m). The drone is available in three colours to appeal to a younger demographic.
Annika Karstadt, senior communication manager, EMEA for DJI, said she sees significant potential in the Middle East region. "For us the Middle East is an interesting market, especially as the film industry is very big and growing here. There are a lot of people who love to do professional photography and videography here so we are optimistic that this market will grow."
